Coca-cola always had some great, very catchy ads in those days. I remember the 1970’s version very well, but I never knew about this one from 1984. I also remember another similar one from the early 1980’s. The original one from 1971 aired as recently as 2001 during an episode of That 70’s Show. I’m glad I saw and taped it.

Was thinking about this over Xmas, was getting nostalgic for these ads that came on during Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph! This one is pure 70’s, I just love it.

Stunning, but a cover version compared to the 1971 Hill Top, the originality of the first was a big part of it’s appeal. Thanks for posting, I’d not seen this before.

I agree

This isn’t from 1984,it’s the follow up to the 1971 version “I’d like to teach the world to sing”This is the Christmas version from about 1972.There was a slightly different version released with the same singers as this one in 1978.This poster of the video probably saw it rereleased in 84 and figures it’s from that year.

Wait a minute? I clearly remember this very video airing in the early 80s at Christmas!! So you’re saying this was made in the 70s and aired again in the 80s? It has more of an early 80s look and feel to me. The hilltop 1971 version is DEFINITELY looks and feels 70s…But not this one, to me anyway.

That’s exactly what I’m saying.Back in the 70’s and 80’s commercials used to run for years, especially classic seasonal themed ones.
March 14th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Joerotty, I know what you’re saying. Yes they used to run the same commercials for years. But the original “1971/72 hilltop commercial wasn’t a Christmas Commercial. The Christmas commercial aired Christmas of both 1983 and 1984. They recalled the commercial from the early 70s, and made a “NEW” Christmas commercial for those 2 seasons. I don’t see why they would have made this commercial in the 70s and never aired it in the 70s but waited until the early 80s, doesn’t make sense to me.

Joe
Is this the late 70s version you’re talking about? In the search on youtube type these exact words “Coca-Cola Classic ad: Hilltop Christmas (1978)

I was thinking to myself “this doesnt Look like the 80’s”
March 14th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Mark..The 1978 version is the different version I was talking about earlier. This version was the early 70’s Christmas commercial that aired well into the early 80’s.

Joerotty
Question. When I look up info online, I see where they describe the original video being released in 1971 about the hilltop singers and how it became so popular they released a single the next year. It then says Coke later brought back a Christmas commercial in 1983/84. I wonder why they completely leave out info regarding the other versions. No where can I find mention of other Christmas versions even though I found the one your were talking about from 1978, just a xmas tree though.

Mark,
If you looked it up on Wikipedia you have to know that they are misinformed on numerous topics.I have researched different subjects on there and have found them not to be a reliable source on many.

I’ve looked all over the place. Information I’ve found so far is that the song used in this commercial was DEFINITELY produced in the 70s and used in the 1978 coke Christmas tree commercial and was very very popular in the mid/late 70s. A few people have told me that this particular commercial was in fact produced in the early 80s but the song itself used in this commercial is not. Again. Not saying you’re wrong, just what I’ve learned from a few so far.
