The Andrews Sisters – Rum & Coca Cola
The Andrews Sisters' recording of 'Rum & Coca Cola'. A song about alcohol and... prostitution? I'm sure it's all very innocent...

I worked at a nursing home and I never understood this song until one of the old ladies (my patient) explained it to me lol

It did happen… read my post. Not only one patient but several have confirmed this.

Memories. I used to play their hits tape on the car casseette. when I used to go and see my Mum iin a nursing home. My very little daughter in her car seat in the back, She now is almost grown up, knows all the modern rubbish, but also this, Beatles and Stones and other clasics.

You’re right, it did. I play an earlier version frequently, and little things in this version jump out at me. Not worse or better, just different.
This tune got a lot of airplay when I was a kid sixty years ago; the version I have sounds like that one.

I mean, they did write and sing a song about strippers. “Take it Off” was about a stripper named Queenie.

Thanks for posting this. As I understand, this is a WWII era song about the Navy experience (trying to enlist young men into the Navy during war time)! Thanks again.

I first heard this on my uncle’s radio show on WSIU 88.7 fm in Edwardsville, IL. I called him up and asked him about the song….today my dad was listening to the show and my uncle played this and dedicated it to me! Great song!

So sad what the hands of time do to beautiful people,I think there’s 1 left I’m not sure and does anyone know which one is still alive?
March 15th, 2009 at 8:02 am
Patty Andrews is still alive, she’s the blonde and lead singer. I think she’s over 90 years old now. LaVerne on the left died of cancer in 1967, and Maxene in 1995.

Wow!….this was my favorite song since a very young age. My mother used to play a purple record of this song and I would sing along with it………amazing how many years it’s been. I am now 44 and I was introduced to this song when I was only 4 or 5 years old at the time……
